Klaus Steinitz

Klaus Steinitz (born November 12, 1932 in Berlin ) is a German economist ( Academy of Sciences of the GDR ) and politician of the PDS .

Life

Klaus Steinitz is the son of the linguist and folklorist Wolfgang Steinitz . In 1934 the family emigrated to the Soviet Union and in 1937 to Sweden . From 1947 he attended secondary school in Berlin, passed his Abitur in 1951 and studied at the Berlin School of Economics from 1951 to 1955 . 1956-1959 he was a research assistant and senior assistant at this university and received his doctorate in 1959 , Dr. rer. oec. 1960 to 1963 he was a lecturer and head of the Political Economy of Socialism department. In 1963 he completed his habilitation in Leipzig on the subject of the factors of the growth of socialist production and their effect in the industry of the German Democratic Republic .

He then became an employee of the State Planning Commission of the GDR, initially at the Economic Research Institute of the State Planning Commission , then until 1971 as head of the forecast department , from 1971 to 1979 as head of the main science and education department. In 1969 he was appointed professor .

From 1980 to 1989 he was the deputy director of the Central Institute for Economic Sciences at the Academy of Sciences in the GDR , and in 1989 he became a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences in the GDR.

From 1990 to 1993 he was a member of the party executive committee of the PDS , from March to October 1990 a member of the first freely elected People's Chamber of the GDR and from October to December 1990 a member of the German Bundestag .

Steinitz has been a member of the Leibniz Society of Sciences in Berlin since it was founded in 1993 . He has been chairman since 2004 and is a member of the board of trustees of the “Helle Panke” association (Landesstiftung Berlin of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation ).
