Patriotic Order of Merit
The Patriotic Order of Merit (abbreviation VVO ) was a state award of the German Democratic Republic . It was donated on April 21, 1954. The award was given to people and institutions who, in the opinion of the GDR leadership, had achieved outstanding performance in a wide variety of areas of social life.
Graduation
The medal was awarded in three stages.
Award requirements
In the official wording: for special merits
- in the struggle of the German and international labor movement and in the struggle against fascism,
- in building, consolidating, strengthening and protecting the German Democratic Republic,
- in the struggle to secure peace and to increase the international impact of the German Democratic Republic
The award was given in the stages of bronze , silver , gold and gold medal (for “special merits”). It could only be awarded once at the same level. With the exception of the bearers of the honor bar, all award winners received cash donations.
Until 1973 the following annual honorary fee was paid to the porters:
- for bronze 250 marks
- for silver 500 marks
- for gold 1,000 marks
After that there was only a one-time bonus:
- for bronze 2500 marks
- for silver 5000 marks
- for gold 10,000 marks
When awarding to collectives (up to 10 people):
- for bronze 500 marks
- for silver 1000 marks
- for gold 2000 marks
As of September 10, 1987, the premium for awarding the order was:
- for bronze 2500 marks
- for silver 5000 marks
- for gold 10,000 marks
- for a bar of honor in gold: 15,000 marks
