Margarete Müller (politician, 1921)

Margarete Müller (birth name: Margarete Knietsch ; * February 10, 1921 in Petershain , Calau district ; † February 26, 2011 ) was a German politician of the SED and an official of the FDGB in the GDR .

Life

After attending elementary school, the daughter of a worker worked as a domestic servant and cook between 1935 and 1945, before joining the KPD after the Second World War in 1945 and working as a metal worker from 1945 to 1949. In 1946 she became a member of the SED and in 1947 of the FDGB and after the founding of the GDR she was a clerk and then a department head in the Freiberg employment office between 1949 and 1950 .

In 1950 she began her functionary work and was first a consultant at the Saxony regional association of the DFD , then from 1952 to 1953 head of department and then in 1954 head of the SED district leadership in Dresden . After working as an instructor in the SED district leadership in Berlin from 1954 to 1957, she studied at the Karl Marx party college and graduated in 1960 as a social scientist. From 1960 to 1964 she was secretary of the SED party leadership at VEB Glühlampenwerk Berlin.

In 1963 she became a member of the Presidium of the FDGB Federal Executive Committee and was a member of it until 1981. At the same time, between March 1964 and 1981, she was secretary of the FDGB federal executive committee for women and of the SED party organization for central organs of the trade unions. In July 1965 she was briefly secretary of the FDGB federal executive committee for law. In addition, she was a member of the General Council of the World Trade Union Confederation from 1965 to 1969 .

In addition, Margarete Müller became a member of the People's Chamber for the first time in 1967 and represented the interests of the FDGB in it until 1981. During this time she was a member of the Presidium of the People's Chamber between 1967 and 1976 as a representative of the FDGB and thereafter until 1981 a member of the Committee for Labor and Social Policy. Most recently she was Vice President of the GDR Peace Council between 1982 and 1984 .

Margarete Müller received the Patriotic Order of Merit (VVO) in silver in 1972 and in gold in 1981. In 1986 she was awarded the VVO in gold. In 1975 she was awarded the Order of Labor Banner .
