Ragnhild Bratberg

Ragnhild Bratberg (born June 9, 1961 ) is a former Norwegian orienteer and cross-country skier . She was world champion in ski orienteering several times and world champion in orienteering in 1987 with the Norwegian relay.

career

Bratberg first started in the summer orienteering world championships in 1981 and was part of the Norwegian world championship squad from then until 1991. With the relay she was able to win her first world championship medal after two fourth places in 1981 and 1983 1985 with silver. In 1986 she became two-time world champion in orienteering skiing in the Bulgarian town of Batak, winning individual and relay titles together with runners Toril Hallan and Ellen Olsvik . In 1987 she was in the French Gérardmer together with Ragnhild Bente Andersen , Ellen Olsvik and Brit Volden relay world champion in orienteering. She was able to win another world championship medal in summer orienteering in 1991 with silver in the relay. In the individual, she achieved her best placement in 1989 with fourth place. At the Orienteering World Championships in 1988 in Kuopio , Finland , she was unable to defend her long-distance world championship title with a second place behind the Finn Virpi Juutilainen . On the newly introduced short distance she won ahead of Juutilainen and also won a silver medal with the relay. In 1990 in Skellefteå she won gold in both the short and long distance and bronze with the relay.

In 1988 she was awarded the Egebergs Ærespris , a prize awarded to Norwegian athletes who are successful in more than one sport. In 1991 she won the cross-country skiing competition Birkebeinerrennet between Rena and Lillehammer . In Norway she won several national championship titles, including 1989 and 1991 on the long distance in orienteering skiing.
