Virpi Juutilainen

Virpi Kaarina Juutilainen (born Peltonen ; born June 11, 1961 ) is a Finnish ski orienteer .

After her World Cup debut in 1984 in Lavarone and a 20th place in the individual competition, she won bronze in 1986 in Batak, Bulgaria, her first of a total of twelve World Championship medals. In doing so, she lagged behind the Norwegian Ragnhild Bratberg and Arja Hannus from Sweden. In 1988 in Kuopio she won the gold medal on the long distance ahead of Ragnhild Bratberg and silver on the short distance behind Bratberg. In the season with Sirpa Kukkonen and Anne Benjaminsen , she won another gold medal. Juutilainen won the first edition of the Orienteering Ski World Cup in 1989 . 1990 in Skellefteåshe won again behind Bratberg world championship silver in short distance races. In the relay with Riitta Karjalainen and Mirja Linnainmaa , the Finns defended the relay gold with Juutilainen. At the 1992 World Championships in France, she was second on the short track for the third time in a row, this time behind Arja Hannus. She also won silver with the Finnish relay. In 1994 in the Non Valley , Virpi Juutilainen won their fourth world title on the short route. Behind the Bulgarian Pepa Miluschewa , she also won silver on the long distance and bronze with the Finnish relay. At her last World Championships in 1996 in Lillehammer , she won bronze with Terhi Holster and Arja Nuolija again with the relay.

At the Finnish championships, Juutilainen has won 16 gold, four silver and three bronze medals so far. In 1984 she became Finnish runner-up in night orienteering on foot. She is married to Anssi Juutilainen , a ski orienteer .
