Orienteering ski , abbreviated ski orienteering , is a type of skiing combined from orienteering and cross-country skiing .

In ski orienteering, as in orienteering, the athletes have to approach a certain number of positions in the shortest possible time using a card . You move with cross-country skis on a prepared network of trails , which is noted on the map with its various levels of difficulty. As with orienteering on foot, a compass is permitted as an aid .
