Gunilla Svärd

Gunilla Svärd (born March 26, 1970 in Uppsala ) is a former Swedish orienteer . Svärd is a two-time world and European champion.

Svärd finished fifth in the junior women's individual race at the first Junior World Championships in 1990 in her home country. In 1992 she won the O-ring , at Swedish women's championships she was able to place on the podium several times and in 1995 she was finally Swedish champion in long distance and night orienteering. It was now used for the first time at a world championship at the age of 25. In 1996 she ran her first World Cup season, which she finished in first place. In 1997 she left the club OK Måsen and went to IF Thor . At the World Championships in Norway in 1997 , she was long distance fifth and was world champion in the relay with Anna Bogren , Cecilia Nilsson and Marlena Jansson . At the following three world championships, she won a bronze medal and two silver medals as an integral part of the Swedish women's relay. On individual routes she celebrated the bronze medal world championship in 2001 in Tampere and in 2002 the European championship in the middle distance. With the Swedish relay, she was again both European and world champion in 2004.

At Swedish championships Svärd won eight titles: 1995 on the long distance and night run, 1996 in night run, 1999 in night run and with the relay, 2002 on the short distance, 2004 on the classical distance and again in 2008 with the relay.
