Egeberg's Ærespris

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Egebergs Ærespris (full name Kabinetskammerherre Egebergs ærespris for alsidig idrett ) is a sports award that is considered to be the highest award in Norwegian sport. It is given to Norwegian athletes who have achieved outstanding results in several sports.

history

The prize goes back to Chamberlain Ferdinand Julian Egeberg (1842–1921), who donated the prize in 1919. The award is a bronze statue by the sculptor Vigrestad Magnus (1887–1957) and shows an athlete with a laurel wreath worn by two fellow athletes.

Initially, the prize should only be awarded to athletes who are successful in two completely different sports, e.g. a winter sport and a summer sport. This regulation has now been lifted so that pure summer or winter sports enthusiasts can now also receive the award. In the early years, the prize was awarded in Tolga , where the founder Egeberg owned a house and was killed in a hunting accident in 1921.
