Oddvar Brå (born March 16, 1951 in Hølonda near Melhus ) is a former Norwegian cross-country skier .

life and career

He was one of the strongest Norwegian cross-country skiers in the 1970s and won the cross-country world cup twice in the 1974/75 and 1978/79 seasons . At the Olympic Games in 1972 and 1980, he managed to win a silver medal with the Norwegian relay. His best individual performance was fourth place in the 15 km race in 1988.

In 1982 he won the gold medal over 15 kilometers at the World Championships and with the relay. In 1973 he received the Morgenbladet gold medal , in 1975 the Holmenkollen medal , and in 1987 the Egebergs Ærespris .

It became historic in 1982 when he broke his stick in the World Championship relay race at Holmenkollen at home and still won gold in a gripping finish. Even today, a widespread saying in Norway is "Where were you when Brå broke the stick?". This saying is used when someone is to blame for something because he was not there.
