Janne Stefansson (born March 19, 1935 in Transtrand ) is a former Swedish cross-country skier .

Career

Stefansson took part in the Winter Olympics twice. In 1960 he finished seventh over 15 km. With the 4x10 km relay, he narrowly missed the medal ranks.

His greatest success was winning the gold medal with the 4x10 km relay at the 1964 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck with the line-up of Karl-Åke Asph , Sixten Jernberg , Janne Stefansson and Assar Rönnlund . As a single starter he took part in the competitions over 15 km (5th place), 30 km (4th) and 50 km (4th).

Two years earlier he had won the silver medal over 30 km at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Zakopane .

Between 1962 and 1969 he won the Wasalauf seven times . During this period, he was only beaten in 1967 by his compatriot and comrade in the 1964 gold relay, Assar Rönnlund, and came in second. This makes him the most successful participant in this traditional run after the 9-time winner of the Wasa run, Nils "Mora-Nisse" Karlsson .
