Torgny Mogren (born July 26, 1963 in Hällefors ) is a former Swedish cross-country skier .

life and career

Mogren's greatest success was winning the world title over 50 km freestyle twice . He won over this distance in 1991 in Val di Fiemme ( Italy ) and in 1993 in Falun (Sweden). Also in 1993 he was honored with the Svenska Dagbladet gold medal and won the radio sports Jerringpris .

He won his first World Cup victory in 1986 in Bohinj ( Slovenia ). Fourteen more World Cup victories followed by 1994, with his victories at world championships being counted as world cup races. In the 1986/87 season he won the overall cross-country world cup.

At the Winter Olympics he was denied great success in a single race. His best result was a fifth place in the 25km pursuit race in Albertville in 1992 . In 1988 he won the gold medal in Calgary as the final runner of the Swedish relay. In total, Mogren took part in four Olympic Games. In his last Olympic race over 50 km in Nagano in 1998 he reached 34th place.

Mogren contested his last World Cup race on March 14, 1998 in Oslo ( Norway ) over 50 km classic; he ran to 47th place.
