The Tauplitzalm is a high plateau in the Styrian part of the Salzkammergut . The plateau is located in the southeast of the Dead Mountains and is at an altitude of 1600  m above sea level. A. up to 2000  m above sea level A. It extends between Lawinenstein in the west and Schwarzensee in the east and covers an area of ​​approximately 5 km². The Tauplitzalm is the largest lake plateau in the northern Limestone Alps. The Tauplitzalm can be reached from Tauplitz by chairlift or via the Tauplitzalm Alpenstraße ( 1621  m above sea level , ) from Bad Mitterndorf . There is a well-developed tourist infrastructure on the Tauplitzalm , so there are several catering and accommodation establishments ( Linzer Tauplitz-Haus ), a ski area and, since 1963, its own church .

Geography

There are six lakes on the high plateau of the Alm. In addition to the three largest, the Steirersee , the Schwarzensee and the Großsee , these are the Krallersee , the Märchensee and the Tauplitzsee .

The most famous mountains on the Tauplitzalm are the Sturzhahn ( 2028  m above sea level ), the Traweng ( 1981  m ) and the Almkogel ( 2116  m ). The Gamsblick via ferrata leads to the Traweng, which is rated overall with difficulty C (difficult). Overall, there are many mountains on the Tauplitzalm. Other mountains include the Schneiderkogel, the Mitterberg, the Roßkogel, the Tranebenkogel, the Grubstein, the Gamsspitz , the Gamsstein and the Steileck, which is again a bit to the east.

In summer, hiking and a. to the mountain lakes, with many rare alpine plants and animals to be found in the rugged karst landscape . A popular tour starts right on the Tauplitzalm. From there it goes further east, past the Tauplitzsee, the Steirersee and the Schwarzensee. Then you get to the Leistalmhütte, where you now take the right path. On path no. 218, you soon turn left at 1649  m and head north. After a notch and over a stony west ridge you reach the summit of the Almkogel at 2116  m .

Lifts and cable cars

The Tauplitz is considered the cradle of alpine skiing in the Eastern Alps; the first ski huts were built and ski courses were held as early as 1910. In 1935 one of the first ski lifts in Austria was built and put into operation, it was a primitive form of today's surface lift.
