Sjur Røthe (born July 2, 1988 in Voss ) is a Norwegian cross-country skier .
Career
Sjur Røthe started in the 2006/07 season for the first time in FIS races and won the silver medal in the 20 km pursuit at the 2007 Junior World Championships. He made his World Cup debut in March 2009 in Trondheim , where he did not finish the race. He won his first World Cup points in November 2009 in Beitostølen . In the same season he won his first World Cup victory with the relay over 4 × 10 km in Lahti in his fourth World Cup start . The next season in November in Gällivare he made it into the top ten for the first time. At his first World Ski Championships, the Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 in Oslo , he reached fourth place in the 50 km freestyle. His best individual result so far and at the same time also his first podium finish in the World Cup was a second place over 15 km classic in Canmore in December 2012. The 2012/13 season he finished with the 13th overall World Cup position. At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2013 in Val di Fiemme , Røthe won the world title with the Norwegian relay team and the bronze medal in the skiathlon .
After a weak start to the 2013/14 season at the Nordic Opening, Røthe reached second place with the relay in Lillehammer . He finished the Tour de Ski 2013/14 in fourth place after a strong final stage. In January 2014 he finished second in the skiathlon at the Norwegian championship. When he first participated in the Olympics in Sochi , he came in 19th place in the skiathlon. He finished the season in seventh place in the overall World Cup ranking and seventh place in the distance ranking. At the beginning of the 2014/15 season he took third place at the Nordic Opening and third place in Davos over 15 km classic. At the 2015 Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun , he finished ninth in the 15 km freestyle. At the last World Cup race of the 2014/15 season, he won the 50 km mass start race in Oslo and reached 13th place in the overall World Cup and eleventh place in the Distance World Cup. After finishing tenth at the Nordic Opening in Ruka at the beginning of the 2015/16 season, he finished third in the relay in Lillehammer and third over 15 km classic in Toblach . He finished the 2016 Tour de Ski in sixth place. At the following World Cup in Nové Město he won together with the relay and won second place in the skiathlon and over 50 km freestyle at the Norwegian championships in Tromsø and Beitostølen . At the end of the season he came in 14th place in the overall World Cup and twelfth place in the Distance World Cup. In April 2016 he won the 32 km Haukelirennet . In the 2016/17 season he finished 13th in the World Cup mini tour in Lillehammer and twelfth place in the Tour de Ski 2016/17 . At the season highlight of the Nordic World Ski Championships 2017 in Lahti , he finished sixth in the 50 km mass start race and fourth in the skiathlon. At the end of the season he achieved seventh place in the World Cup finals in Québec , ninth place in the overall World Cup and sixth place in the Distance World Cup. In March 2017, as in the previous year, he won the Haukelirennet over 32 km freestyle.
At the beginning of the 2018/19 season, Røthe won the Lillehammer Triple over 15 km freestyle and thus achieved second place in the tour standings. At the following World Cup in Beitostølen triumphed over 30 km freestyle and with the relay. At the Tour de Ski 2018/19 he won the final stage in Fiemme Valley and thus achieved fourth place in the tour ranking. At the beginning of February 2019 he finished second in the skiathlon at the Norwegian Championships in Meråker . At the season highlight, the Nordic World Ski Championships 2019 in Seefeld in Tyrol , he prevailed over 30 kilometers in 1: 10: 21.8 hours with a tenth of a second ahead of Russian Alexander Bolschunow . He also won the bronze medal in the 50 km mass start race and the gold medal with the relay. At the end of the season he was tenth at the World Cup finals in Québec and finally achieved third place in the overall World Cup and second place in the Distance World Cup. After eighth place in the Ruka Triple and third place in the relay in Lillehammer at the beginning of the 2019/20 season, he finished fourth in the 2019/20 Tour de Ski . He achieved second place in the final stage over 10 km. This was followed by third place in the 15 km freestyle in Nové Město and in the skiathlon in Oberstdorf and second in the 15 km mass start race in Falun . He finished the 2020 ski tour with a win in Östersund , in ninth place. At the end of the season he won the relay in Lahti and reached fifth place in the overall World Cup and second place in the Distance World Cup.
