The 49th Nordic World Ski Championships took place from February 20 to March 3, 2013 in the Italian region of Val di Fiemme . This was the third time that Val di Fiemme hosted the Nordic World Ski Championships after 1991 and 2003 .

Choice of venue

The Val di Fiemme region and the cities of Falun , Zakopane , Lahti and Oberstdorf were the only places that competed to host the World Championship that had already hosted Nordic World Ski Championships in the past. In the election on May 29, 2008, Val di Fiemme finally prevailed against the competitors in the third ballot.

Competitions

For the first time in the history of the Nordic World Ski Championships there was a mixed competition. It was carried out in ski jumping as a team competition with two women and two men on the normal hill. Otherwise there were only changes in the Nordic combined. There the team competition with a relay of four runners in the second part was again reduced to one discipline, namely jumping from the normal hill. Instead of the team competition on the large hill, there was now a team sprint. Two representatives from each country jumped off the large hill once. The subsequent cross-country skiing was carried out like the team sprint in the pure cross-country skiing disciplines - an extremely attractive addition to the Nordic combined. The total number of competitions was 21.

Successful nations and athletes

The nation with by far the most World Cup titles was again Norway . The country won eight gold medals and eleven other medals. France followed with three World Cup titles, Russia and the USA won two gold medals each.
The most successful participant was Marit Bjørgen . The Norwegian won three individual titles and one with her relay. It was followed by her compatriot Therese Johaug , who was also a member of this season and won another individual gold medal. In the men’s category, the French Jason Lamy Chappuis stood out; he was world champion three times in Nordic Combined, one in an individual competition and twice in various team / team disciplines.

Attendees

701 athletes from 57 countries were registered for the world championship.

World Champion 2011 : ( Gregor Schlierenzauer , Manuel Fettner , Wolfgang Loitzl , Thomas Morgenstern ) AustriaAustria

Date: March 2, 2013

A total of twelve teams took part in the team competition, of which the best eight made it to the second round. The Russian selection missed the finals by just 0.1 points compared to the host Italians. The Austrian team owed their victory - in addition to the good jumps - above all to the skiing skills of Manuel Fettner, who lost his right ski on landing and drove on just one ski without having to reach into the snow until behind the fall line. Through this performance he managed to avoid significant point deductions that would have let the Austrian team fall back.

After the competition, the Norwegian team was initially behind Austria on silver. However, since Anders Bardal and Anders Jacobsen started from a higher hatch than initially assumed, the point calculation was corrected after the jump and the Norwegians dropped to fourth place, which is why Germany and Poland subsequently won silver and bronze.

Date: February 24, 2013
A mixed team competition was held for the first time at this World Cup. Each team consisted of two women and two men. The eight best teams from the first round were qualified for the final.
The Japanese team won ahead of Austria and Germany, especially because of Sara Takanashi's outstanding jumps, who with 106.5 meters stood the longest set of the competition.
