Gregor Deschwanden (born February 27, 1991 in Horw ) is a Swiss ski jumper .

Career

Gregor Deschwanden at the 2013 World Cup

Deschwanden made his international debut on September 9, 2006 at an FIS race in Einsiedeln and finished in 50th place. On October 8, 2006, also in Einsiedeln, he made his FIS Cup debut and just missed the second round in 32nd place. Only one year later Deschwanden started again in the FIS Cup, again in Einsiedeln, and scored his first points in this series as 29th. On December 27, 2007 he made his debut in the Continental Cup in Engelberg and finished in 43rd place. At the Junior World Championships in Zakopane , Deschwanden was 38th in the individual and tenth in the team with Rémi Français , Pascal Egloff and Adrian Schuler . With the exception of the Continental Cup in Engelberg, the FIS Cup in Einsiedeln and the Junior World Championship, he only competed in FIS races this season.

In the 2008/09 season Deschwanden started more often in the Continental Cup. His best result was a 31st place in Brotterode . He also competed in several Alpine Cups this season , but was never able to reach the second round here. Deschwanden was also at the FIS Cup in Einsiedeln and was 24th twice. Deschwanden started the 2009/10 season with a 19th place at the FIS Cup in Villach . This season he started sometimes in the Continental Cup , sometimes in the FIS Cup and sometimes in the Alpine Cup. In addition, Deschwanden took part in the team competition at the World Cup in Willingen on February 7th, 2010 and finished 13th and penultimate place with Antoine Guignard , Rémi Français and Marco Grigoli . At the beginning of March he reached places ten and nine at the FIS Cup in Courchevel . In summer 2010 Deschwanden started at the Continental Cups in Kranj and Velenje , but missed the second round. He was also at the Alpine Cups in Kranj and Oberstdorf , always reaching the second round and seventh in Oberstdorf, the best result of his career in the Alpine Cup so far. After the FIS Cup in Einsiedeln, Deschwanden won the team bronze medal at the Swiss Ski Jumping Championships 2010 .

In winter Deschwanden started regularly (16 competitions) for the first time, but was only able to reach the second round in four competitions. His best result by far was fifth at the last competition in Wisła . He also competed in several competitions in the FIS Cup and Alpine Cup. Deschwanden took part in a Junior World Championship for the second and last time in his career . This took place in Otepää . In the individual he finished 38th and was sixth in a team with Marco Grigoli, Pascal Egloff and Adrian Schuler . At the Swiss championships in October 2011, he was runner- up behind Simon Ammann for the first time. He was able to celebrate his third bronze medal in the team competition with the team of the Central Switzerland Snow Sports Association.

On December 4, 2011 Deschwanden was able to qualify for the first time for a World Cup competition in Lillehammer, Norway and finished in 47th place. Almost a year later, on December 1, 2012, he collected his first World Cup point as 30th in Kuusamo, Finland . In January 2013 he achieved his first Continental Cup victory on the Ōkurayama hill in Sapporo . In the same month he achieved his best season result in the individual World Cup on the same hill with 16th place. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2013 in Val di Fiemme , Italy , he finished 41st on the normal hill and 43rd on the large hill . He finished tenth with the team.

On November 24, 2013, he achieved his first top ten placement in the individual World Cup in tenth place in Klingenthal . In February 2014, he first took part in the Winter Olympics in Sochi . He finished 25th on the normal hill and 14th on the large hill in the individual competitions. On February 28, 2014 he was able to repeat his best result with another tenth place at the World Cup in Lahti . At the Ski Flying World Championships 2014 in Harrachov he finished 23rd in the individual.

At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2015 in Falun , Sweden , he finished 14th on the normal hill and 17th on the large hill. He finished tenth with the team. On March 10, 2015, his best individual result of his career improved in the World Cup when he finished eighth in Kuopio . In the overall World Cup of the 2014/15 season , he finished 27th with 189 points and thus achieved his best result to date.

On December 13th, 2015 Deschwanden achieved his best World Cup result in seventh place in Nizhny Tagil . At the 2016 Ski Flying World Championships on Kulm , he finished 30th in the individual. The 2016/17 season was his worst ever in the World Cup since he started regularly in the World Cup. He reached the points only once with place 23 in Sapporo and thus remained at eight World Cup points. At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2017 in Lahti , Finland , he missed the finals in individual with 33rd place on the normal hill and 35th place on the large hill. As in 2013 and 2015, he finished tenth with the team.

On December 2, 2017, Deschwanden achieved his best World Cup result with seventh place in Nizhny Tagil, which he achieved for the first time two years earlier in the same position. Overall, he was able to improve his performance compared to the previous season and jumped back into the points several times. At the Ski Flying World Championships 2018 in Oberstdorf , he finished 34th in the individual and sixth with the team. At his second Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang in February 2018 , he finished 29th in the individual competition on the normal hill and 36th in the individual competition on the large hill .
