Otepää (German Odenpäh ) is a rural community in the Estonian district of Valga with an area of ​​217.4 km². It has 3849 inhabitants (January 1, 2017).

Besides the capital, the city of Otepää (2,178 inhabitants), belong to the municipality of the villages Arula, Ilmjärve, Kassiratta, Kastolatsi, Kaurutoots, Koigu, Kääriku, Mägestiku, Mäha, Märdi, Nüpli, Otepää küla, Pedajamäe, Pilkuse, Pühajärve , Raudsepa, Sihva, Truuta, Tõutsi, Vana-Otepää and Vidrike.

On June 4, 1884, the flag of the Estonian Student Association was consecrated in the church of Otepää , which later became the Estonian flag . Today there is also a flag museum there.

Sports

With its sports center Tehvandi on the south-eastern edge of the main town, Otepää is the winter sports center of Estonia. With numerous opportunities for winter sports ( cross-country skiing , ski jumping , ice skating ), it attracts many holidaymakers in winter.
