Otepää (German Odenpäh ) is a rural community in the Estonian district of Valga with an area of 217.4 km². It has 3849 inhabitants (January 1, 2017).
Besides the capital, the city of Otepää (2,178 inhabitants), belong to the municipality of the villages Arula, Ilmjärve, Kassiratta, Kastolatsi, Kaurutoots, Koigu, Kääriku, Mägestiku, Mäha, Märdi, Nüpli, Otepää küla, Pedajamäe, Pilkuse, Pühajärve , Raudsepa, Sihva, Truuta, Tõutsi, Vana-Otepää and Vidrike.
Since the municipality reform in 2017, the places of the former municipality of Sangaste (Ädu, Keeni, Kurevere, Lauküla, Lossiküla, Mäeküla, Mägiste, Pringi, Restu, Risttee, Sangaste, Sarapuu, Tiidu, Vaalu) as well as some places of the former rural municipality Palupera (Lutike , Makita, Miti, Neeruti, Nõuni, Päidla, Räbi) to Otepää.

The Odenpäh bishop's castle stood here until the 17th century .
On June 4, 1884, the flag of the Estonian Student Association was consecrated in the church of Otepää , which later became the Estonian flag . Today there is also a flag museum there.
Sports
With its sports center Tehvandi on the south-eastern edge of the main town, Otepää is the winter sports center of Estonia. With numerous opportunities for winter sports ( cross-country skiing , ski jumping , ice skating ), it attracts many holidaymakers in winter. The infrastructure is well developed and offers a wide range of accommodation and leisure options. The former Estonian cross-country skier Kristina Šmigun-Vähi lives and trained in Otepää . As part of the Worldloppet series, the Tartu Maraton ( ski marathon ) takes place here over 63 kilometers from Otepää to Elva .

Another sporting event was the first half-distance race of the Ironman series (70.3) in triathlon on August 6, 2016 .
