Worldloppet

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Worldloppet runs are a series of ski marathons organized by the Worldloppet ski association ( Worldloppet for short ). This association was founded in 1978 in Uppsala ( Sweden founded). It is an international sports organization that was set up to connect the ski marathons in the individual countries and make them more popular. The youngest member is the Ushuaia Loppet in Argentina.

Only one marathon per country can be a member of the Worldlopet; a “detour” of the route to another country is not relevant. The route of the Transjurassienne leads partly over Swiss territory.

The goal for the athlete should be to have participated in ten different Worldloppet marathons on at least two different continents. He receives the title of Worldloppet Masters .

Today the Worldloppet includes a total of 20 marathons from Europe, America, Asia and Australia. These are in detail:

80,000 skiers take part in the marathons, which run over various distances (between 42 km and 90 km). The main runs are currently mostly carried out using the classic technique, with skating technique also being held in most cases .

In addition to amateur skiers, professional skiers also take part. For example, the FIS awards the Worldloppet Cup , which mainly includes ski marathons from the Worldloppet series and thus represents a professional series of competitions for top skiers. The Ski Classics competition series also mainly includes Worldloppet races.
