American Birkebeiner (short name Birkie ) is the largest ski marathon in the USA and North America. The race has been held between Cable and Hayward (Wisconsin) since 1973 . The main runs are 54 km (classic technique) and 50 km (free technique) long. In addition, two shorter distances of 23 km ( Kortelopet ) and 12 km ( Prince Haakon ) are offered, which start and end in Cable. The race is held annually in February and is part of the Worldloppet series.

The name of the race is based on the Birkebeinerrennet in Norway.
