Bend Piastów

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bieg Piastów (German: Piastenlauf ) is a ski marathon in Poland that has been held since 1976 and is now part of the Worldloppet series.

Brief description

The race, named after a ruling dynasty in Poland, is held annually at the beginning of March in the eastern Jizera Mountains in the Jakuszyce (Jakobsthal) trail area near Szklarska Poręba in a large loop. It is considered the oldest cross-country skiing event in Poland. The number of participants has increased steadily, so that now up to 5000 runners are sent out on the track.

Various races are held on the competition weekend. The main runs run over 50 km and 25 km in classic technique and 30 km in free technique . Other distances were still covered in the 1990s: 10 and 20 km in free technique and 50 km in the classic way, i.e. in parallel ski guidance. From various information on the Internet, however, it can be deduced that the run lengths are redefined more often, for example there should have been 12.5 km, 25 km and 54 km in 2017.
