from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dolomitenlauf is a popular cross-country skiing race that takes place once a year in Obertilliach near Lienz in East Tyrol . The race takes place in January and is one of the most popular cross-country races in German-speaking countries, along with the Engadin Ski Marathon in Switzerland. It is part of the Worldloppet series, which includes the world's great popular cross-country races.

The Dolomitenlauf has been held since 1971 and now consists of three competitions. There will be runs in classic technique over 42 km and 20 km and in free technique over 60 km and 25 km. The freestyle race over 60 km is included in the evaluation of the FIS Marathon Cup . A “Dolomite Sprint” is also held. In addition, there are also smaller competitions that are of no international significance.

The number of participants has increased steadily over the years. For example, the organizers put around 2,000 runners in 2001.
