Bedřichov (German Friedrichswald ) is a municipality in the Czech Jizera Mountains . It is located near Liberec and Jablonec nad Nisou .
geography
The place is located in the valley of the White Neisse (Bílá Nisa) , a source river of the Lusatian Neisse . In the vicinity of the place two dams were created, which serve the drinking water supply of the cities Liberec (Reichenberg) and Jablonec nad Nisou (Gablonz) . The dam Friedrichswald (Vodní nádrž Bedřichov) north of the place dams the Black Neisse (Černá Nisa) . To the northeast is the Josefsthal dam (Vodní nádrž Josefův Důl) , where the Kamnitz (Kamenice) is dammed.
history
The Friedrichswalder Glashütte was built in 1598 by glass master Peter Wander. It was the starting point for the early expansion of a settlement, which got its name in honor of the first owner of the von Redern family , Friedrich von Redern the Elder († 1564). Friedrich was the father of Melchior von Redern , the owner of the estate at the time, who ruled Reichenberg from 1591 to 1600 .
The place was first called Friedrichswaldau, later Friedrichswalde and from the 18th century Friedrichswald and belonged to the judicial district of Reichenberg from the middle of the 19th century . After 1918 the Czech name Bedřichov was created next to the German place name.
After the Munich Agreement , the place was added to the German Empire and belonged to the Reichenberg district until 1945 .
Economic development
Production in the glassworks was stopped in 1807. The place lives mainly from tourism. Bedřichov is now a ski center in the Jizera Mountains and very popular with downhill skiers .
The place is also the start and finish of the Jizera Mountains run over 50 km, which takes place annually in January.
