Jiřetín pod Bukovou (German Georgenthal ) is a municipality in Liberecký kraj in the Czech Republic . It is a member of the Kamenice microregion and the Neisse Euroregion .
geography
Jiřetín pod Bukovou is located in the Jizera Mountains at the foot of the Buková ( Buchberg , 837 m) on the right bank of the Kamnitz (Kamenice) .
history
The first written mention comes from the tax roll of 1654. Albrecht Maximilian Desfours received landlords in the area in 1662 and founded settlements for working immigrants whose local foundations were given the first names of his family. Morchenstern ( Smržovka ) spun off as an independent.
In the dialect of the Jizera Mountains the names Geörgthal , Geörgensberg , Girgenthal and Jergnstol were also used for Georgenthal.
In 1862, the inventor and industrial pioneer Daniel Swarovski was born in Georgenthal near Albrechtsried in the Gablonz district into a family of glass cutters who developed a successful gemstone industry company with new grinding machines for 10 years in Johannesthal near Reichenberg in 1895 and moved on to Wattens in Tyrol in 1895 pulled. 1908 to 1945 and the expulsion of the Germans from Czechoslovakia , the company Johann Schowanek was based in Georgenthal , which at times employed more than 1,300 people.
