The Bedřichov ( Friedrichswalder Talsperre ) dam is a typical Intze dam near Bedřichov ( Friedrichswald ) in the Czech Jizera Mountains .

purpose

The dam is used to protect against flooding and to release process water ( industrial water ). In March 1906 it held back floods twice. The dammed body of water is the Black Neisse , which flows into the Görlitzer Neisse (now called Lausitzer Neisse) at Stráž nad Nisou .

Construction of the dam

The dam was built from November 1902 to December 1905 northeast of Reichenberg ( Liberec ) under the supervision of Otto Intze from Aachen and put into operation in December 1905. The remaining construction work was completed in June 1906. After Intze's death in December 1904, E. von Scheure took over the site management. Victor Czehak was the site manager.

Building

The wall is made of rubble stones, whereby the granite stones come from the nearby Friedrichswald quarry. Cement trass and washed granitic sand were used as mortar . The wall was founded on a 2 meter high concrete slab.

More dams

To protect against flooding , a total of six dams were planned in the Görlitzer Neisse river basin. The trigger was the floods of 1897 in large parts of Bohemia , Saxony , Prussia and the Alpine countries. For this purpose, the water cooperative was founded in 1900 to regulate watercourses and build dams in the Görlitzer Neisse river basin.

  • Grünwald water ( Mšeno ) (storage volume 2.7 million m³)
  • Harzdorf ( Harcov ) (storage volume 0.63 million m³)
  • Friedrichswald / Schwarze Neisse (Bedřichov) (storage volume 2.0 million m³)
  • Görsbach / Gierschbach, Czech: Jeřice , ( storage volume 0.5 million m³) (1906 still in planning)
  • Voigtsbach ( Fojtka ) (storage volume 0.25 million m³)
  • Mühlscheibe / Scheidebach ( Mlýnice ) (storage volume 0.25 million m³)

It is not known whether the Görsbach dam was actually built. No corresponding dam can be found in lists of Czech dams today.
