The Mlýnice dam ( German “Mühlscheibe dam”) is a typical Intze dam in the Jizera Mountains in Bohemia (Czech Republic), which was part of Austria at the time of construction. The dam is located in the district of Mlýnice ("Mühlscheibe") in the municipality of Nová Ves ("Neundorf") north of Liberec ("Reichenberg").

purpose

The dam serves to protect against floods and the rise in low water levels. The dammed water is the Albrechtický potok ("Scheidebach") in the headwaters of the Jeřice ("Görsbach").

The dam

The dam was built from 1904 to 1906 under the supervision of Prof. Intze from Aachen as a gravity dam . After the death of Prof. Intze in December 1904, chief engineer E. v. Schure the construction management. The local construction manager was the engineer H. Schmidt.

The wall is made of hornblende granite rubble. Cement trass was used as the mortar .

More dams

To protect against flooding , a total of six dams were planned in the Görlitzer Neisse ( Lausitzer Neisse ) river basin . The trigger was the floods of 1897 in large parts of Bohemia , Saxony , Prussia and the Alpine countries. For this purpose, in 1900 the “water cooperative for regulating watercourses and building dams in the Görlitzer Neisse river basin” was founded. - The other five are:

  • Grünwalder water ( Mseno ) ( storage volume 2.7 million m³)
  • Harzdorf ( Harcov ) (storage volume 0.63 million m³)
  • Friedrichswald / Schwarze Neisse ( Bedrichov ) (storage volume 2.0 million m³)
  • Görsbach / Gierschbach (storage volume 0.5 million m³) (was still in planning in 1906)
  • Voigtsbach ( Fojtka ) (storage volume 0.25 million m³)

The Görsbach dam was probably not built. No suitable dam can be found in lists of Czech dams today.
