Lusatian Neisse
The Lusatian Neisse ( Upper Sorbian Łužiska Nysa ; Lower Sorbian Łužyska Nysa ; Czech Lužická Nisa ; Polish Nysa Łużycka ; formerly also Görlitzer Neisse ) is a 254 km long left tributary of the Oder , which flows from the Jizera Mountains through the east of the Upper and Lower Lusatia . It is the longest of the Neisse rivers and forms part of the German-Polish border as a result of the Second World War . Because of its connection to Germany, it is therefore often referred to only as the Neisse .
course
The Lusatian Neisse rises with the source rivers (Wiesentaler Neisse, Weisse Neisse, Schwarze Neisse and Gablonzer Neisse) in the Jizera Mountains in the north of the Czech Republic .
The Wiesentaler Neisse (Lučanská or Lužická Nisa) rises at the northern foot of the Černá studnice (Schwarzbrunnkoppe) and flows through the town of Lučany nad Nisou (Wiesental) . The Gablonzer Neisse or Neudorfer Bach (Novoveský potok) flows into the Neisse in Jablonec nad Nisou (Gablonz) . The White Neisse (Bílá Nisa or Rýnovická Nisa) flows through Bedřichov (Friedrichswald) and Janov nad Nisou (Johannesberg) and flows into the Neisse below Jablonec.
North of Bedřichov, the Black Neisse (Černá Nisa) is dammed in the Bedřichov dam, flows through Kateřinky (Katharinberg) and flows into the Neisse in Stráž nad Nisou (Alt Habendorf) .
The Neisse flows through Jablonec nad Nisou (Gablonz) and Liberec (Reichenberg) and reaches the German border at Hartau at an altitude of 234 m. The mean discharge (MQ) at the Czech-German border is 5.4 m³ / s. The river length in the Czech Republic is 55.1 km, the water catchment area there 375.3 km².
As far as the triangle south of Zittau , the river forms the border between Germany and the Czech Republic for about one kilometer. In its further course to the north, the Neisse is the border river between Saxony and the Polish powiat Zgorzelecki in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship (Dolnośląskie) for 124 kilometers . The river continues northwards through Görlitz / Zgorzelec , past Rothenburg / Oberlausitz . On the right side Neisse begins in Sobolice the (Zoblitz) Lubusz (Lubuskie). The Neisse flows on towards the Fürst-Pückler-Park near Bad Muskau . Behind the village of Köbeln , which Hermann von Pückler-Muskau had relocated from the right to the left side of the Neisse in the 19th century, the Neisse leaves Upper Lusatia and forms the border with Brandenburg on the German side. It flows past the Lower Lusatian towns of Forst (Lausitz) and Guben / Gubin and finally flows into the Oder around 15 kilometers from Eisenhüttenstadt near Ratzdorf / Kosarzyn (Kuschern) at km 542.40.
The 410 m long estuary of the Lusatian Neisse (LsN) is one of the so-called other inland waterways of the federal government under the responsibility of the Eberswalde Waterways and Shipping Office .
Bridges between Germany and Poland
Over 90% of the existing bridges were blown up by the retreating Wehrmacht towards the end of the Second World War in order to hinder the advance of the Red Army . There was hardly any reconstruction of the bridges by the GDR , but even after Poland's accession to the Schengen Agreement , many bridges on the Neisse are still closed, partly due to a lack of financial resources to renovate them. This also creates an opportunity for a natural landscape without road traffic.
