The Englische Brücke is a historic pedestrian bridge over the Lusatian Neisse in Fürst-Pückler-Park Bad Muskau . Located on a Neisse bend, it connects the Polish and German parts of the park with each other in a north-south direction.

The bridge, built in 1822, was destroyed several times, most recently in 1945 due to the effects of the war. Reconstruction began after 65 years, and since autumn 2011 it has once again offered visitors a direct connection to the former location of the English House in the north-eastern part of the park.

history

The bridge, built in 1822, was a wooden construction with a striking railing in the form of a diagonal lattice. Therefore it was initially called the Lattice Bridge . The bridge was destroyed during the floods in 1858 but rebuilt. It was probably at this time that the wooden bridge structure was replaced by a stone bridge and the shape of the railings changed. During the floods in 1897, the bridge was destroyed again and then rebuilt. In the spring of 1945 - shortly before the end of the Second World War  - the bridge was blown up.

In 2010/2011, the English Bridge was rebuilt based on the historical model, and a makeshift crossing for construction vehicles was built upstream right next to it. The bridge was given a plank made of larch wood and a railing made of steel with decorations based on the original. It was inaugurated on October 17, 2011.
