Brożek ( German Scheuno ) is a village with 61 inhabitants in the Polish part of Niederlausitz in the rural municipality of Brody . It is located directly on the Lusatian Neisse , which acts as the Polish-German state border, opposite the Keune district of the German city of Forst , one kilometer south of Zasieki (formerly Forst-Berge) and 11 kilometers southwest of Brody (Pförten) in the powiat Żarski , Lebus Voivodeship , in West of Poland . From 1940 to 1945 Brożek was the Forst-Scheuno district .

history

The village of Scheuno was incorporated into the town of Forst in 1940. Construction of Sprengchemie Forst-Scheuno of Deutsche Sprengchemie GmbH began as early as 1938 . The factory started operations in 1941. In addition, there was a camp for the training of DRK helpers to look after the armed forces. In 1939 Forst-Scheuno had 808 inhabitants. Between Scheuno and Keune there was a bridge over the Lusatian Neisse , which was blown up in 1945. Unlike the bridges further north in the center of Forst, this one was completely removed. After the Second World War , the area east of the Neisse fell to Poland , Scheuno was given the Polish name Brożek and the German population was expelled. The DRK camp was completely dismantled, the ruins of the explosive chemicals have been partially preserved.

On February 14, 2017, a fire broke out in a recycling yard in Brozek for an unexplained cause , which burned various plastics . The fire was initially contained , but continued to smolder , as a result of which the neighboring town of Forst (Lausitz) on the German side was also hit by the cloud of smoke. According to measurements by the Polish environmental authority, the smoke exceeded the limit values for cadmium and benzopyrene in the air. Help from the German fire brigade to fight the fire was rejected by the Polish side.
