The powiat Żarski is a powiat (district) in the Polish Lubusz Voivodeship with the district town of Żary (Sorau) . It lies on the border with Germany between the Lausitz Neisse and the Bober . The powiat has an area of ​​1394 km², on which about 98,000 inhabitants live, and belongs to the Euroregion Neisse .

history

The powiat was formed with the reduction of voivodeships and the reintroduction of the powiate on January 1, 1999. Its area partially corresponds to that of the Prussian district of Sorau (1818–1945).
