The Gmina Brody is a rural community in the powiat Żarski of the Lubusz Voivodeship in Poland . Their seat is the village of the same name ( German Pförten ) with about 970 inhabitants.
geography
The community with an area of 240 km² is located in the eastern Lower Lusatia . It has an approximately 20 km long western border with Germany. Neighboring cities are Forst in the west and Lubsko (Sommerfeld) in the east.
history
After the Second World War, Pförten was given the Sorbian name Brody and in 1946 lost its town charter . The rural community existed from 1946 to 1954 and was re-established in 1973.
The community has been a member of the Spree-Neisse-Bober Euroregion since September 21, 1993.
Partner communities
The rural community entered into partnerships with the neighboring towns of Forst and Lubsko.
