history

Eulo was first mentioned as a church village in the church registers of the Meißen diocese from 1346 . The spelling of the place name at that time was Ylaw . The name comes from the Sorbian language and describes a place on muddy, greasy clay soil . In 1844 there were 55 residential buildings in Eulo with a total of 351 inhabitants. The village had an outbuilding that belonged to the town of Forst.

As a result of the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the entire Lower Lusatia came to the Kingdom of Prussia . There the municipality Eulo was in the district of Sorau in the administrative district of Frankfurt . On April 1, 1940, Eulo was incorporated into the town of Forst together with Domsdorf , Keune , Noßdorf and Scheuno . After the formation of the Soviet occupation zone , Eulo came to the Cottbus district and when the district was newly formed on July 25, 1952, to the Forst district in the GDR district of Cottbus . After the reunification , Eulo was initially in the Brandenburg district of Forst, after the district reform in December 1993, Eulo came to the Spree-Neisse district . Also in 1993 Eulo lost its status as a district and was downgraded to a residential area.

The village church Eulo is a registered monument in the monument list of the state of Brandenburg . In 2003, Eulo had to cede part of its former municipal area to the newly built district of Horno .
