history

Mulknitz was first mentioned on February 6, 1487. The place name comes from the Malxe river that flows through the village. In Sorbian, place and river still have the same name.

On November 24, 1643, Mulknitz was attacked and destroyed by the army of the Swedish general Lennart Torstensson . In 1898, Mulknitz was destroyed again by fire.

The village church in Mulknitz was built in its current form in 1927 according to plans by Curt Steinberg . The organ of the church dates from the second half of the 18th century and is said to come from Bad Muskau . Until 1825, preaching was also carried out in the Sorbian (or Wendish) language in Mulknitz .

After the Congress of Vienna , Mulknitz came to the Kingdom of Prussia, like all of Lower Lusatia . There Mulknitz was in the district of Bohrau in the district of Sorau (Lausitz) . After that, the place was in the Cottbus district until 1952 . On July 25, 1952, Mulknitz was assigned to the newly formed forest district in the Cottbus district and was in the forest district in Brandenburg after the reunification . After the district reform in Brandenburg on December 6, 1993 , Mulknitz came to the newly formed Spree-Neisse district and was incorporated into the town of Forst (Lausitz) .
