history

The place was first mentioned in the year 1465 as Domdorff (according to other sources 1463 as Domßtorff ). The name is derived from the Lower Middle German personal name " Domes ". According to Ernst Eichler , the place name can also be derived from the Lower Sorbian version “Domaš”. The place name Domisdorf has been handed down for the year 1487 .

In 1814 Domsdorf had 70 inhabitants, who had to give an estimate of 1200 guilders to the rule of Pförten . Until 1815 Domsdorf belonged to the Gubenischen Kreis in the Kingdom of Saxony . As a result of the Congress of Vienna , Saxony had to cede part of its territory, which also included Domsdorf, to the Kingdom of Prussia . There the village was part of the district of Sorau (Lausitz) in the administrative district of Frankfurt in the province of Brandenburg .

On April 1, 1940, Domsdorf was incorporated into the town of Forst together with the former communities of Eulo , Keune and Noßdorf. After the Second World War , the western part of the Sorau district was incorporated into the Cottbus district. Domsdorf was initially in the Soviet occupation zone and from October 1949 in the GDR . During the district reform carried out in the GDR on July 25, 1952, the town of Forst and its districts were assigned to the newly formed district of Forst in the Cottbus district . After the fall of the Wall , the Forst district was renamed the Forst district , and for the district reform in December 1993, the Forst district was combined with three other districts to form the new Spree-Neisse district .
