history

Simmersdorf was first mentioned in a document in 1510. The place name is probably derived from the Old Sorbian personal name "Živomir". Through the Peace of Prague in 1635 the place came to the Electorate of Saxony . There Simmersdorf belonged to the Spremberg district and was therefore in an exclave that was completely surrounded by the rule of Forst in the Guben district . In 1806 the Electorate of Saxony was elevated to a kingdom . After the division of the Kingdom of Saxony decided at the Congress of Vienna , Simmersdorf came to the Kingdom of Prussia .

In Prussia, Simmersdorf was part of the Frankfurt administrative district in the Brandenburg province . During the regional reform of 1816, the place was assigned to the Sorau district . The village had a manor house , to which a flour mill belonged by 1835 at the latest . This mill was operated with water power until the 1920s. By 1840 Simmersdorf had 24 houses and 161 residents. To the site included a Vorwerk and a sheep farm . Ecclesiastically, Simmersdorf has always been part of Groß Schacksdorf. In 1864 Simmersdorf had 210 inhabitants. At the census of December 1, 1871, there were 149 inhabitants in 15 families in the rural community of Simmersdorf. Of the inhabitants, 71 were men and 78 women; 33 residents were children under ten years of age. In addition, there were 68 people living in the Simmersdorf estate (35 men and 33 women; 14 children under ten years of age). Both in the manor district and in the rural community, all residents were of the Evangelical Lutheran denomination.

From 1874 Simmersdorf formed with large Schacksdorf, Jethe and Smarso the District Simmersdorf. According to Arnošt Muka , 75 of the 203 inhabitants were Sorbs in 1884/85 , which corresponds to a share of 37 percent. At the census on December 1, 1910, the rural community Simmersdorf had 179 and the manor district 127 inhabitants. The manor district of Simmersdorf was dissolved in 1928 and incorporated into the rural community. After the Second World War , the Simmersdorf district was dissolved. Simmersdorf was initially in the Sorau district, which existed in the Soviet occupation zone after the Oder-Neisse border was established until April 1, 1946, after which Simmersdorf was reclassified to the Cottbus district . This belonged to the state of Brandenburg since 1947 . Simmersdorf had been in the GDR since 1949.

On July 25, 1952, the states and districts in the GDR were dissolved and districts were formed. The community Simmersdorf was assigned to the Forst district in the Cottbus district . After reunification , the place was initially in the district of Forst in Brandenburg. In 1992, Simmersdorf joined forces with several other municipalities in the Hornow / Simmersdorf district to handle administrative business. On December 6, 1993, the district of Forst became part of the new Spree-Neisse district . On December 31, 2001, Simmersdorf merged with the neighboring community of Groß Schacksdorf to form the community of Groß Schacksdorf-Simmersdorf . After the population of the Hornow / Simmersdorf office had fallen below 5000 at the end of 2002, the office was dissolved on March 5, 2003 and the community of Groß Schacksdorf-Simmersdorf was reclassified to the Döbern-Land office .
