The Wittgendorfer Wasser , also Wittgendorfer Bach , is a six kilometer long brook that flows through the village of Wittgendorf . It rises on the southwestern edge of the forest of the Oberwald , flows down the southwest slope of the Steinberg and finally flows north of Drausendorf into the Lusatian Neisse . On its way, the Wittgendorfer water is fed by the Romereifeldgraben and other small watercourses. The banks of the stream are largely supported by pillars made of pentagonal basalt .

Like many other streams and rivers in Upper Lusatia , the stream carries strongly fluctuating amounts of water with the seasons. Due to the sparse forest cover in the surrounding area, there used to be a lot of floods when there was heavy rainfall. The last major flood disaster was recorded for the night of May 17-18, 1887. Although this lasted only an hour, it claimed seven lives and caused 90,000 marks in damage.

Today the water of the stream is mainly used for fire fighting operations. For this purpose, special suction points were excavated. Nevertheless, it is usually not possible to use it in summer, as the Wittgendorfer water carries very little water at this time of the year.
