The Neisse behind Coschen

The area of the present-day village was already settled in the late Neolithic , Bronze and Iron Ages. Remnants of vessels from the spherical amphora culture (later Neolithic), agricultural implements and weapons from the Bronze and Iron Ages were found nearby . A Slavic settlement existed around the castle wall , which was later called Schanzhebbel .

The village was first mentioned in 1414 when Anna Tylkow, a citizen of Guben, and her son Jakob sold part of the village to the Neuzelle monastery . It was called Cosschin , then in 1468 as Koschen . From 1651 it was pledged by the monastery to the von Rochow family and remained in this family until the separation in 1817.

With the construction of the railway in 1846 , the appearance of the village also changed. The "Zur Eisenbahn" inn was built in 1870, and the railway stop "for passenger traffic" was set up in 1880. In 1894 a wooden bridge was built over the Neisse to Seitwann . And there was always flooding. In 1897 the community had ten floods and three dam breaks on its corridor. In 1901 a freight yard was built. Gravel mining and a cutting mill revived the economy, and a post office was set up. In 1945 the Neisse bridge was destroyed.

On December 31, 2001 Coschen formed the new community of Neißemünde with three other communities . In 2014 another bridge was built over the Neisse into the neighboring Polish town of Żytowań.

On June 26, 2019, the highest June temperature in Germany since the beginning of the weather record was recorded in Coschen with 38.6 ° C.
