Karl Gander

Johann Friedrich Carl Gander (mostly Karl Gander ; born May 19, 1855 in Coschen , today in Neißemünde ; † March 12, 1945 in Passau ) was a German teacher and local researcher .

life and work

Karl Gander was the son of the small farmer Johann Gottfried Gander (* 1818) and his wife Johanne Karoline née Bahro. He attended the teachers' college in Neuzelle from 1872 to 1875 . From 1876 to 1914 he worked as a teacher in Guben . Since it was founded in 1884, he was a member of the Niederlausitz Society for Anthropology and Archeology and its chairman from 1916 to 1930. His main work is the history of the city of Guben , which he published in 1925 using the preliminary work of Hugo Jentsch .

A street in Guben is named after him.
