  • 2008 : An Australian search team from "The Finding Sydney Foundation" discovered the wreck of the German auxiliary cruiser Kormoran and a little later also the wreck of the Australian light cruiser HMAS Sydney at a depth of around 2500 m off the west coast of Australia . Both ships sank under controversial circumstances after a naval battle on November 19, 1941.
