Tim Wieskötter (born March 12, 1979 in Emsdetten , Steinfurt district ) is a German canoeist . He is multiple world champion in two-man kayak and was Olympic champion in Athens in 2004 .

Career

Wieskötter began canoeing at CC Emsdetten in 1990 and started his international career for KG Essen . After he came to Potsdam in 1998, he has been a member of the KC Potsdam since 2004 . Since 1999 he has successfully participated in various major international competitions in a two-person kayak with Ronald Rauhe . They participated in four Summer Olympics from 2000 to 2012 . In addition to their 2004 Olympic victory over 500 m, they won the silver medal in 2008 and the bronze medal in 2000; In 2012 they took 4th place in the K4 over 1000 m. After they were unbeaten at all international championships between 2001 and 2008, they were defeated by the Spaniards Saúl Craviotto and Carlos Pérez by nine hundredths of a second at the 2008 Olympic Games and won the silver medal. Since 2001 they have been world champions seven times, European champions eleven times, and four other medals.

In addition to sports, Wieskötter studied industrial engineering with a focus on logistics at the Technical University of Wildau . After completing his bachelor's degree in 2013 (2014) he is studying for a master's degree.

On January 30, 2014, he announced his retirement from competitive sports. On the same day he was elected to the board of the Friends of the KC Potsdam.
