Investiture dispute
- September 23 : With the Worms Concordat , the investiture dispute between Emperor Heinrich V and Pope Calixt II is settled. The compromise of as immersive Pactum Calixtinum Heinricianum designated Concordat considers, inter alia Ivo of Chartres back, but does not, the conclusion more themselves. Emperor Heinrich V accepts the church's claim to investiture with a ring and staff , symbols of the spiritual marriage with the church and priestly pastoralism. The bishops are elected by the cathedral chapters. In return, Pope Calixt II admits that the election of the German bishops and abbots should be negotiated in the presence of imperial representatives, and that the elected person should then be enfeoffed by the emperor through the scepter as a secular symbol of investment with the sovereign rights associated with his spiritual office (“ Scepter Loan ”).
