Florens II (Holland)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Count Florens II the fat of Holland (* around 1080; † March 2, 1122 ) was the son of Count Dietrich V of Holland and Ulfhild.

Life

Florence II. Or Floris II. De Vette , as he was called in Holland, was born around 1080. He officially took over the government in Holland and Zeeland in 1091 . During his reign the great sea invasions began, which largely formed the Zuidersee. This led to a significant geographical and thus also political separation of East Frisia . He, too, carried on the feuds of his house against Flanders , the bishops of Utrecht and Geldern, over rights, spheres of influence and property, which had become a tradition.

Marriage and offspring

He married Petronilla of Holland († 1144) in 1113 , also known as Gertrud of Alsace, daughter of Duke Dietrich II of Lorraine. He had the following children with her:

  • Dietrich VI. (* around 1110 - † August 6, 1157)
  • Florence the Black (around 1115 - October 26, 1133)
  • Simon († unknown) - Canon in Utrecht
  • Hedwig († 1132) - nun of Rijnsburg
