Florence the Black
Florence the Black (* around 1115; † October 26, 1133 ) was a Dutch count and rebel.
He was the son of Petronilla of Holland and Florentius II , Count of Holland . In a year-long war against his brother Dietrich VI. and the bishop of Utrecht Andreas von Kuik from the house of Cuyk he fought on the side of the Frisians . He called himself the "Count of Friesland". Under his command, the Frisians destroyed Haarlem . Emperor Lothar III. ordered the fighting to cease. Florence instead invaded the area of Cuyk and was killed during the feud of Gottfried I of Cuyk . The emperor, whose nephew Florence was, drew the Cuyks before the royal court in Cologne. Gottfried was temporarily banished and Bishop Andreas of Utrecht was also punished.
