from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Otto III. , originally Otto I (also Dethleb or Ota III. Olomoucký ; * 1122 ; † May 12, 1160 ) ruled from 1140 to 1160 as Duke of Olomouc .

ancestry

He came from the Přemyslid family and was the only son of Duke Otto II from his marriage to Sophie von Berg-Schelklingen , the daughter of Count Heinrich I von Berg .

Life

Otto III. spent his youth in exile in Russia. After his return to his father's legacy of Olomouc in 1140, he rebelled with his cousin Konrad von Znaim and with Leopold I against Vladislav II in order to win the Bohemian crown.

On April 25, 1142, the armies of the warring parties clashed near Kuttenberg. Vladislav II lost the battle and was chased away at short notice. He fled to the German King Konrad III. who marched into Prague that same year without a fight. Otto III. subsequently renounced Konrad von Znaim. The King Conrad III. for this reason gave him back the Olomouc principality, which had fallen into disrepair during the war.

He remained loyal to the king until his death in 1160 and took part in a crusade to the Holy Land in 1147 .

He married Durantia N. ( Durancia ), with whom he fathered three children: Vladimir zu Olmütz († around 1200), Bretislav zu Lundenburg († before 1201) and Swatawa († 1151).
