1841: The President by storm
  • 1841 : The paddle steamer President , the largest steamship of its time, sets off from New York with 109 people on board for Liverpool. It will be seen for the last time on March 13th, after which it will disappear without a trace on the North Atlantic.
  • 1864 : The Dale-Dyke Dam in England breaks, the tidal wave devastates large parts of Sheffield and kills around 270.
