Ladislav Zelenka

Ladislav Zelenka (born March 11, 1881 in Modřany , † July 2, 1957 in Prague ) was a Czech cellist.

As a child, Zelenka had lessons from Jan Ondříček , the father of the violin virtuoso František Ondříček . He later studied cello with Hanuš Wihan at the Prague Conservatory . After attending Hugo Becker's master class in Frankfurt, he went to Odessa as a music professor in 1904. Here he became a member of the Ševčíková string quartet (alongside Jaroslav Kocian ) .

In 1911 Zelenka returned to his homeland. Here, in addition to chamber music, he primarily devoted himself to teaching. Until 1914 he was a member of the Ševčík Lhatsky Quartet . In 1922 he became professor of chamber music and in 1928 of cello at the Prague Conservatory. In 1936 he became director of the Prague Master School and after the Second World War director of the Prague Music Academy . Ludmilla Ymeri and Saša Večtomov were among his students . From 1936 to 1945 Zelenka was a member of the newly founded Česke Trio (with Jan Heřman and Stanislav Novák ).
