Ferid Alnar
Ferid Alnar ( Hasan Ferit Alnar ; born March 11, 1906 in Istanbul , † 1978 in Ankara ) was a Turkish composer.
Alnar studied from 1927 to 1932 in Vienna with Joseph Marx and Oswald Kabasta . Afterwards he was first conductor at the theater and teacher for music history at the conservatory in Istanbul, from 1937 to 1946 composition teacher and then until 1953 chief conductor of the Philharmonic Orchestra. From 1954 to 1960 he was general music director of the Ankara State Opera , where he then worked as a guest conductor. He belonged to the Turkish Five , the group of the first professional composers in Turkey.
Alnar composed operas, stage and film music. He also wrote instrumental concerts (a cello concerto , a concerto for Kanun ), a string quartet, a piano trio, a suite for piano and orchestra, piano pieces and songs . His compositions are shaped by the folklore of his homeland.
