Jussi Aro
Jussi Taneli Aro (born June 5, 1928 in Lappo , † March 11, 1983 in Espoo ) was a Finnish linguist ( Assyriologist ).
Aro was born into a family of small farmers. Already in his childhood he was noticed by his interest in foreign languages. Jussi Aro was Professor of Oriental Languages at the University of Helsinki since 1965. His research covers the areas of Babylonia , Semitic languages and literature. With Armas Salonen he translated the Koran into Finnish in 1957 . In 1973 he received an honorary doctorate in theology.
