Jussi Aro

Jussi Taneli Aro (born June 5, 1928 in Lappo , † March 11, 1983 in Espoo ) was a Finnish linguist ( Assyriologist ).

Aro was born into a family of small farmers. Already in his childhood he was noticed by his interest in foreign languages. Jussi Aro was Professor of Oriental Languages ​​at the University of Helsinki since 1965. His research covers the areas of Babylonia , Semitic languages and literature. With Armas Salonen he translated the Koran into Finnish in 1957 . In 1973 he received an honorary doctorate in theology.
