Dorothea von Sachsen-Lauenburg (born March 11, 1543 in Lüneburg , † April 5, 1586 in Herzberg ) was a princess of Sachsen-Lauenburg and by marriage Duchess of Braunschweig-Grubenhagen .

Life

Dorothea was the eldest daughter of Duke Franz I of Saxony-Lauenburg (1510–1581) from his marriage to Sibylle (1515–1592), daughter of Duke Heinrich of Saxony . Together with her sister Ursula , she grew up with her grandmother Katharina in Freiberg and, after her death in 1561, with Electress Anna of Saxony in Dresden .

She married on December 10, 1570 in Osterode, Duke Wolfgang von Braunschweig-Grubenhagen (1531–1595). The marriage contract was negotiated by Joachim von Beust and in it disputes over the office of Steinhorst between the houses of Braunschweig and Lauenburg were settled. Her husband laid out a pleasure garden for Dorothea in Schloss Herzberg .

Dorothea died before her husband on Easter day 1586 without having born children and was buried in the St. Aegidienkirche in Osterode. On the back of the altar sheet of the grave site of the Grubenhagen dukes there is a representation of the duchess and her husband.
