Magnus Jacob Crusenstolpe (born March 11, 1795 in Jönköping , † January 18, 1865 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish nobleman , publicist and writer , mainly of works of the historical genre.

Life

Originally pursuing a legal career, he was employed as an assessor at Svea hovrätt from 1825 to 1834 . From 1828 to 1830 he published the newspaper Hjerta ("Heart"), an opposition "Reichstag newspaper". In 1830 he changed political sides and began to publish a government- loyal paper Fädereslandet ( "Fatherland" ) until 1833 . However, since he did not feel that he was officially supported enough, he discontinued this paper and again went on a tough confrontation course with the government. His polemics led to criticism of the king. As he described military appointments on a Sunday as a violation of the Sabbath, they took this occasion to him for treason to three years imprisonment to condemn. Thereupon there were some riots in Stockholm. Crusenstolpe had to serve his imprisonment from 1838 to 1841 on a small island on the fortress of Vaxholm . Even after his imprisonment, he continued to oppose the king and government.

His contemporaries considered him a brilliant writer. The artistic freedom he exercised limits the historical value of his historical works.
