Politics and world events
- February 28th : The peasant uprising in Transylvania ends with the execution of the leaders Horea and Cloşca .
- March 7th : Sweden takes possession of the island of Saint-Barthélemy in the Lesser Antilles , which it received from French colonial possession in exchange for the granting of trading rights in Gothenburg .
- July 23 : Prussia merges with Hanover and Saxony to form the Three Elector League, which expands rapidly with the addition of 14 other imperial princes to the Prince League.
