1522: Hadrian VI.
  • 1522 : The German Adrian von Utrecht is named Hadrian VI. Elected Pope after the election of Swiss Bishop Matthäus Schiner failed due to resistance from French cardinals. Hadrian becomes the last non-Italian pope for over 450 years.

  • 1954 : The British North Greenland expedition measured the lowest temperature on the island of Greenland to date at -65.9 degrees Celsius at its North Ice wintering station .

  • 1864 : In London in Battersea Park , the first official football game according to the rules of the English Football Association (FA), founded the year before, takes place, the game is ceremoniously opened by Arthur Pember - the President of the FA. After the game, the "success of football, regardless of class or belief" is toasted (English: "Success to football, irrespective of class or creed").
  • 1900 : The soccer club Lazio Rome is founded.
